Country Walks and Cycle Routes
Thorpe Farm offers an ideal starting point for local walks and cycle routes. With the completion of the alterations to the A66, which included the new Bridle Path leading to Greta Bridge through a tunnell under the road, all the local footpaths are accessible.
We have put together a leaflet, which is available on site, listing a selection of walks ranging from 1 mile to nearly 9 miles starting and finishing at Thorpe Farm. All the walks utilise the existing footpath network and take in some of the finest sites in the area including the banks of the River Greta and the meeting of the waters where the Greta joins the River Tees. To the south of Thorpe Farm you will find Barningham and the Moors above. This is the start of the Yorkshire Dales and the views of Teesdale from the footpaths are breath taking.
For the cycling fraternity the new Bridle Path allows access to the side road network leading to Barnard Castle to the West, Richmond to the East and the Yorkshire Dales to the South.
We have good access and ample free parking. On your arrival why not meet up in the restaurant and have a coffee and a home made scone while you map out your route. You can even order takeaway sandwiches for trip.
Ordance Survey maps of the area are available for sale in the shop.
