6th May 2023 was a special day for the Nation, with everyone celebrating The King’s Coronation, and what a beautiful service/ceremony it was, history was made!
Here at Thorpe Farm Centre we had our own special day, where two of our own, Paul Barkes owner of Thorpe Farm and our Head Chef Andy plummeted 15,000 feet out of an aeroplane, falling at 125mph for 1 minute before the parachute opened!
The Journey started back in January where Paul and Andy said let’s do something where we can raise money for a charity that is close to our hearts. Andy said let’s throw ourselves out of an aeroplane and this brought us to the incredible day of May the 6th where the two of them made this reality!
Between Paul & Andy, they both managed to raise over £2,000 for Manhealth who are a voluntary organisation who use a proactive approach to address the issue of male suicide. ManHealth hugely supported Paul and Andy on the day of the jump too making sure they were relaxed and prepared for what they had got themselves into!
Manhealth run a network of weekly, free to attend in person and online peer support groups, a free live chat service available 7 days a week.

On the day of the jump, the Sky-High Skydiving team at Peterlee, County Durham took the lead from the start with the guys, starting off with taking them through the training, and telling them what to expect. When training was complete, it was time for the main event .. THE JUMP!
Taking the lead was the very brave Paul, who made their way up to 15,000 feet and was still smiling in the plane at the top! No turning back now! Paul was joined on the day by his wife Jo Barkes, who supported him through the event and kept his nerves at bay!
Last but not least, Andy was up for the big jump, watching back on Andy’s interview before the jump, he didn’t seem phased at all and was rather excited! Andy was supported by his wife Nicola and children who came along and watched Andy do the amazing 15,000 feet jump!
